A learning tool:
Dave Proust is an award winning Poet; he uses famous Australian poems and his original poetry to engage students on a journey of discovery and enjoyment. The entertaining performance encourages the children to develop an appreciation and understanding of Australian Bush Poetry as a genre and demonstrates the role it has played in the development of the Australian culture. A whip cracking demonstration using a traditional Australian Stockman’s whip highlights the importance of keeping our culture alive.

He discusses openly with the students his own reading difficulties and how reading and learning poetry helped him through his school journey.
Give the Children in your school the opportunity to enjoy our wonderful Australian Bush Poetry, and to use poetry as a tool for learning and confidence.

I thought the show was great! It was really funny and entertaining! I especially liked your funny poems, but the one about the “Light Horse" was great. Your whip cracking exhibition was exciting as well. I liked your view that all kids should read.

You are a great Poet and thank you for coming to St Eddies to perform. “The Man from Ironbark” was my favourite poem because of the people that you picked from the crowd.
Thanks Sean.

Dave kept the year 8 students engaged for 1 & ½ hours. This was a rare opportunity to experience some “Traditional “Australian culture.
